Position Title: Tool & Die Maker / Technician
Wage: $25.00 - $35.00/hour + Shift Differential + Bonus Potential
Shift: 1st or 2nd (Monday - Thursday, Optional Overtime on Friday)
Seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to support a high-volume precision metal manufacturing environment in Vernon Hills, IL. This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and improving progressive stamping dies and tooling to maximize production efficiency, quality, and uptime. The ideal candidate has experience with die maintenance, blueprint reading, precision machining, and manual/CNC toolroom equipment. Candidates should possess strong mechanical aptitude, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Tool & Die Maker / Technician Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain progressive stamping dies and tooling
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on production tooling
- Manufacture replacement die components using manual and CNC toolroom equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, die drawings, and engineering specifications
- Analyze tooling performance and recommend improvements to increase productivity and tool life
- Review production and quality inspection reports to identify tooling improvements
- Maintain accurate electronic maintenance records and documentation
- Measure components using precision measuring instruments
- Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and Quality teams
- Maintain high standards for safety, quality, and workmanship
Requirements for Tool & Die Maker / Technician:
- Tool & Die apprenticeship, technical degree, or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of Tool & Die or progressive die maintenance experience preferred
- Experience maintaining or repairing stamping dies
- Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings
- Experience operating manual toolroom equipment such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, and EDM preferred
- CNC machining experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of precision machining and close-tolerance work
- Knowledge of both English and Metric measurement systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Basic computer skills
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently and within a team
