Maintenance Mechanic Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance on production and packaging equipment, including inspection, lubrication, adjustment, alignment, and replacement of worn components
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electrical control issues, then test equipment to confirm safe and reliable operation
- Respond to breakdowns and unplanned downtime by restoring equipment safely and quickly and supporting startups, shutdowns, and changeovers as needed
- Support maintenance and repair of facility and utility systems as assigned, including HVAC, compressed air, dust collection, lighting, plumbing and water systems, and plant electrical
- Perform general facility and grounds maintenance tasks as assigned
- Identify recurring issues, participate in root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to help prevent repeat failures
- Support initiatives that improve reliability, system efficiency, energy usage, and cost performance
- Accurately complete work orders, maintenance records, inspections, and parts usage documentation in the CMMS and other required systems, and enter clear, timely notes to support maintenance reporting as assigned
- Follow site SOPs and applicable quality and sanitation requirements, and report deviations, discrepancies, and safety or quality concerns promptly
- Follow all safety policies and safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout, confirming equipment is de-energized before electrical work, and wearing required PPE
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and inspection-ready work area
- Respond to urgent maintenance needs such as equipment failures, utility interruptions, and power outages
- Requisition and maintain appropriate spare parts, equipment, and supply levels. Check out parts and complete accurate inventory transactions in the CMMS
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors as needed to support repairs, inspections, and specialized service work
- Work collaboratively with production and maintenance teams to plan and prioritize work, communicate status, and support training/knowledge sharing as needed
- Communicate equipment status, completed work, and open issues through clear shift handoffs and documentation
Requirements for Maintenance Mechanic:
- Associate degree in a technical field, apprenticeship, military technical training, or equivalent combination of education, training, and industrial maintenance experience
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment and systems
- Ability to safely use a multimeter and related test equipment to troubleshoot basic electrical control circuits following Lockout/Tagout procedures
- Working knowledge of industrial mechanical and electrical components such as motors, motor starters, pushbuttons, switches, fuses, circuit breakers, contactors, overloads, relays, sensors, terminals, and basic instrumentation
- Ability to use common maintenance tools and perform hands-on repairs such as drilling/tapping, seal replacement, bearing replacement, belt/chain adjustment, alignment, lubrication, and general mechanical troubleshooting
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, and basic wiring diagrams or schematics and to document work clearly
- Proficiency with Outlook, Teams, and Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use a CMMS or work order system
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between buildings/sites as needed
- Strong safety mindset with Lockout/Tagout, attention to detail, troubleshooting skills, and clear written communication, along with a positive, self-directed approach and a customer-service mindset when supporting operations
- 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience in a food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, FDA-regulated, or other controlled manufacturing environment (cGMP) preferred
- PLC/automation experience is a strong plus with basic troubleshooting, diagnostics, and the ability to use available tools and information
- Formal safety training or certifications such as OSHA, EPA refrigerant handling, trade licenses, or other relevant credentials is a plus
- Working knowledge of root cause analysis and other structured problem-solving methods preferred
